Electric SUVs use new battery technology

Phoenix Motorcars produces fleet vehicles that travel 100 miles or more on a charge, reach a top speed of 95 mph. The batteries come from NanoSafe© batteries from Altair Nanotechnologies and can be recharged in less than 10 minutes using an industrial 480 volt charging platform.
Fisker Plug-in Hybrid

Fisker Automotive's $80,000 4-door plug-in hybrid sports sedan is scheduled to debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January. The car is expected to go 50 miles on electric before the gasoline or diesel engine kicks in.
Opel E-Flex Concept

Visitors to the Frankfort Motor Show will see this Opel concept E-Flex car. The car will use a 1.3 liter turbo diesel engine to recharge the lithium-Ion batteries when they are drained. It will also be recharged by plugging it into an electrical outlet. Underneath, it's similar to the Chevrolet Volt which will use a 1 liter turbocharged 3-cylinder gasoline engine instead.
GM takes delivery of Lithium-Ion Batteries

According to Edmond's AutoObserver, GM took delivery of the first advanced lithium-ion batteries for the E-Flex operating system that will power the upcoming Volt. The volt is scheduled to be on the market by the end of 2010.

Tesla Motors offers an electric car that goes 245 miles on a charge. It gets the equivalent of 135 mpg and goes from 0 to 60 in less than 4 seconds. The car is built by Lotus and based upon their Elise. Tesla adds the electric drive train. Great performance and a high price…$98,000.
